Are you going to Columbus Bride:The Show this weekend? Bridal shows can help you gather tons of information, but they can be super overwhelming. Some brides love them, some brides go into a weird state of shock from the information overload. I have exhibited at the show 4 or 5 times. This year I opted out, but I will be there to see what's going on in the wonderful world of weddings. I have tons of vendor friends and I can't wait to go see their booths. In fact, you might even see some of my work :)
I have always recommended that brides bring stickers with them (remember the gold stars that your teacher gave you back in Elementary School?) Place the stickers on the cards of the vendors that you really like, so at the end of the day you have a way to sort through your pile of goodies. I've heard of some brides trashing all of their collected materials due to confusion and anxiety.
Some people suggest making a label sheet with your contact info, so that you don't have to write your name a zillion times. Because face it, you will be asked to register at most booths. Some people suggest creating a wedding email account to receive all correspondence from vendors-because yes, they are going to email you. I am not sure why this comes as a surprise to a lot or brides. Instead of being irritated by emails, try to view them as friendly reminders of the vendors that you took the time to talk to. Oh,and if you are contacted by vendors whose booths you didn't stop at, view those as introductions to even more vendors. Vendors, vendors vendors!!! I'm kind of overwhelmed myself just thinking about the position brides are in. Information overload doesn't work for me, but hey, some people dig on it :)
So at the end of the day, you are going to have a bag full of vendor stuffs. If you have a plan in mind it will be easier to sort through it all. Choose one category at a time, visit websites, then make contact with anyone you are interested in. If you break things up that way it will help keep you organized. So say you're looking for a DJ, take one week to focus on reviewing the info of all of the DJs that you met at the show. Take it one step at a time.
And last but not least, have FUN. Eat cake, stop by City Barbecue, enjoy the fashion show. Wedding planning is serious business, but you should be having fun along the way. Despite what people think, bridal shows were not created to stress people out!
